CLASS VISIT INFORMATION

Looking for a creative and out of the ordinary experience for your students? I would love to visit your classroom! I'm now offering class visits to students of all ages.

From drawing and painting, to embroidery, printmaking, colour theory, DIY art supplies and beyond, I've curated a list of 25+ creative experience ideas for you to browse and consider.

While some experiences are better suited to particular age groups, I can adapt sessions to the age and skill level of your classroom. I am flexible to host these sessions both indoors (classrooms, libraries, etc.) or outside if the weather co-operates.

Pricing for most visits is a flat rate of $300.00 (includes instruction and materials for up to 20 students) + $6/additional student. Copy of recent criminal record check (with vulnerable sector check) and proof of workshop insurance can be provided upon request.

CLASS VISIT IDEAS


I. DRAWING WITH GRAPHITE

SHADING BASICS
Students will practice different shading techniques and exercises that will take their pencil drawings to the next level! Option to add-on take-home sketching kits.

LEARN TO DRAW ANIMALS
Students will learn to break subjects down into simplified shapes, and practice drawing 3-5 different animals step-by-step. Option to add-on take-home sketching kits.

SELF-PORTRAIT SKETCHING
Students will create a self-portrait in graphite pencils after a lesson in basic facial proportions, feature drawing exercises, and observing their reflection. Option to add-on take-home sketching kits.

II. ACRYLIC PAINTING

BASIC COLOUR THEORY
This class will introduce students to the relationships that exist between familiar colours and demystify common colour terminology. Everyone should have a handle on basic colour theory!

ALL ABOUT TECHNIQUES
Students will explore tons of fun acrylic painting techniques. From found textures to gradients, blending and more - this class is sure to delight and engage students of all ages.

1.5 HR PAINT ALONG
Learn colour mixing, form, shape-building and acrylic painting techniques while following step-by-step instructions. Select an artwork to replicate from a variety of paintings and themes. Each student will complete their painting in roughly 1.5 hrs, and finish the session with their unique spin on an original artwork!

PICK 3 BIRD PAINTING WORKSHOP
Students will pick a background style, a bird type and complimenting elements to create an acrylic painting. The result? A unique masterpiece they can be proud of!

INTRO TO LANDSCAPES
Students will discover common landscape elements, consider artwork composition, learn new terminology to speak about art, and build their painting layer by layer.

PAINT YOUR PET
Want to spend time observing a photo of your furry friend, and creating a very special painted portrait? Students will leave this class with an artwork they will cherish for years to come!

III. PRINTMAKING

PRINTMAKING BASICS

Negative space? Line? Etching and carving? All concepts we’ll explore in this fun and exploratory printmaking workshop. Discover some impressive printmaking techniques achieved with simple materials.

MAKING PRINTED PATCHES
Create original hand printed patch designs using printmaking techniques and upcycled textiles. Students will garner new art skills, while enjoying the sustainable process of making expressive patches for their clothes, backpacks and more.

IV. EMBROIDERY + HAND SEWING

STITCH PRACTICE
Hand sewing is such a “handy” back pocket skill! Students will practice various stitches they can use not only to customize / repair clothing and textiles, but also to create expressive “thread painted” art works.


V. WATERCOLOUR PAINTING

BIRCH FOREST PAINTINGS

Students will create unique and gorgeous watercolour birch forest paintings, while learning so many useful techniques they can transfer to future projects.

BASIC TECHNIQUES

We’ll practice technique after technique in this engaging and exploratory watercolour workshop. Salt, plastic wrap, candlesticks and more will all make their appearance in our painting kits.

WATERCOLOUR PAINT MAKING

Ever thought about where paint comes from? How is it made? I’ll share information and demonstrate processes with students that’ll have them trying to turn everything they see into paint!

INTRO TO LANDSCAPES

VI. COLOURED PENCILS

ELEVATE YOUR PENCIL SKILLS
Learn new strokes and techniques for utilizing this familiar medium. Practice blending, burnishing and more. Your coloured pencil drawings will never look the same!


FUR, FEATHERS, SCALES AND HAIR

Different protective layers call for different pencil techniques. Discover how layering and pencil strokes can help you achieve more realistic textures with your pencil crayons.


DRAW YOUR PET

Spend time observing a photo of your furry friend, and creating a very special drawn portrait! Students will leave this class with an artwork they will cherish for years to come.

VII. CLAY

HANDBUILDING BASICS
Working with clay can be such a novel experience. In this lesson, students will learn basic handbuilding techniques using air- dry clay.


CLAY AS A MOULD

Explore the properties of clay, and discover how it can be used as an effective mould for plaster projects and more. Students will leave this session with a mini fossil made from impressions of found objects and nature’s treasures.

EXPLORING TEXTURE + ETCHING

Students will experiment with various clay tools, etching and form building techniques - adding line, texture and visual interest to individual clay tiles.

VIII. COLLAGE

COLLAGE TECHNIQUES + POCKET JOURNALS

Discover a variety of collage techniques and apply them to your very own pocket journal. An expressive project meant to inspire creativity long after the workshop ends.

IX. CHALK PASTELS

EXPLORING AURORA

Students will examine and contemplate the extraordinary phenomenon that is aurora borealis, before creating striking artwork inspired by curtains of colour.


X. MISCELLANEOUS

MUSICAL DRAWINGS

Students will create an imaginative instrument on paper, then lean on makey makey tech and the conductive properties of graphite pencils to play their drawing out loud!


RECYCLED PAPERMAKING

Make paper new again! We’ll use discarded paper fiber to create beautiful handmade paper with mould + deckle techniques. Option to add non-invasive wildflower seeds to your paper sheets - plant your art and watch it grow!

MAKING PAINT

Students love to use paint, but do they know where it comes from? In this lesson we’ll increase our understanding of pigments, binders and create various types of paint from natural objects and more.


BASED ON A BOOK
Children’s picture books are a wealth of visual information and serve as a great jumping off point for an art lesson. Select from a list of age appropriate books, and I’ll pair storytime with an engaging and complimenting art activity.

NATURE JOURNALING
Discover the creative and rewarding process of nature journaling! We’ll explore creative techniques and exercises for observing, recording and reflecting on our experiences with nature. Bringing us closer to understanding the natural world while simultaneously improving our art skills!
